Branson, MO- Amidst the doping allegations that Russia experienced during the 2018 Olympics, the country is trying to create a more positive image. And what better way to do that, then to bring back America’s Russian born sweetheart Yakov Smirnoff, and his 1986 “hit” sitcom ‘What a Country!’
“When we saw the reports that many Russian Olympic hopefuls were using the same banned performance enhancing drugs that you would need to stay awake through NBC’s new Thursday night lineup, we saw an opportunity,” said president of NBC Entertainment, Jeff Shell.
The Russian Board of Tourism is hopeful the show will change their image. “We want the world to see that Russia is lovable, just like Yakov Smirnoff. We even offer kid friendly vodka drinks at all our Starbucks,” said Ivan Servov, head of the KGB. “It’s going to be hard to change people’s perception that Russia is a big train wreck. Hopefully NBC can help, after all, nobody knows train wrecks better than NBC. Did you see Sean Saves the World? Yikes!” Servov added.
The new What a Country will put Yakov into a host of modern day zany situations such as “Yakov goes to Chili’s”, “Yakov doesn’t understand Twitter” and “Yakov votes Trump and gets deported.“
The writers promise entirely new Yakov jokes, such as:
- In America they make 3 Hangover movies. In Russia, ‘3 hangovers’ is a 3 day weekend!
- In America, many men want to look like woman. In Russia, many woman already look like men!
What A Country will follow the new spin-off: LAW and ORDER: COSBY FILES.
Both shows are set to premiere on NBC this fall, and scheduled for cancellation in late fall.
